Its enough, we can't take it more......!!!
In the era of developement and promises of getting 'Acche dinn', no doubt we are achieving ecomomic growth and also where our international relationships are at peak with the countries with whom we never even expected. But are these the only parameters of 'Acche dinn' ? If you ask me then my answer will be that we are well far away to achieving overall real meaning of this term.
A recent informal debate took up while I was hanging out on streets of mumbai near marine lines station with my batchmates. Suddenly a topic of sexual harraesment popped up and it was quite obvious in scenario what we are witnessing currently in terms of crimes against women. My friends were feeling empathetic about this inhumane scenario. I heard my friend saying that she in the case of witnessing a assault overherself she will first let it happen and then afterwards she will screw up the culprit after the incident. I thought that I misunderstood her words and percieved something else due to distracting heavy noises around & I ask her to repeat what she said. What I heard again made me in a situation where I was completely numb from inside, frozen like a rigid iceblock for few seconds. She said ,"In case of witnessing a rape I will let him do whatever he want to do first and when the time is appropriate I will screw him up when the aid with me will be approrpriate". I was completely shocked, not because she gave this first response mechanism, but when I realised that how cruel, insensitive and monster minded society are we living in, where a girl, whom I know for past few years, whom I respect allot, consider her more than my sister, is compelled to think about the responses in anticipation for the situation which I pray to Almighty should come in no one's life. And the reason she gave was perfectly justified that in case of resistance a girl's life can be seriously compromised and the injuries in incident where she tries to resist can lead her with fatal injuries. Here the question is not about the reason, but about the preparedness of mindset a girl is forced to keep.
Do we realise how ugly our soul had became? Can we even face ourself in the mirror after hearing the incidents in newspaper? I personally was not able to get a goodnight sleep since I heard what my friend told and thinking about the actual incidents taking place. In case of people who thinks that this incidents are bound to happen and due to us being a poor country the Government is not able to spend much on safety for women, I have an example of our neighbouring country, Bhutan i.e. comes under top 20 country where crimes against women are at a very miniscule/negligible level. Another is Indonesia. Aren't you shocked by hearing names of the underdeveloped countries?? Ohh you might be expecting names of the countries with high GDP and high International stature. An fun fact is Bhutan's foreign policy guidance (at advisory level) and staff officers training is provided by India, that limited is their money purse. This raises the question at international level on India that why we are not able to achieve the safety parameters (atleast optimun) for the women living in our country and also women visiting our country.(Crimes in India against international female tourists also comes in a long list).
71 years was quite a good time to achieve the whole and sole differently desired country, the only condition was that few of our erstwhile leaders/politician had took initiatives not to merely show people and increase their votebank but for actual developement of the country. Our culture was and even today is great but this political lobbying and intrusion in our culture is one of the reason for intrusion of corrupt behavior in the individual. Let me show you how:
1.Poverty, where parents are so busy in earning a two time meal that they have no time to provide good upbringing for a child, where he is seldom taught to treat opposite gender with same respect as he treats his.
2.Environment full of corruption, where a person's most corrupt activity is also justified.
3.Huge inequalty between the rich and the poor, where the uppers think that they are the master of law and lower think that their misery is their fate.
4.Influence of Entertainment culture (even bollywood), where mere for a healthy revenue the government's C.B.F.C. had passed movies (I am not even cosidering the vulgar ones) which shows that either a women is an asset of a man or either he have to mishandle, tease, force, in order to woo her and consider only "yes" in her every "NO".(Recently Aamir khan in his latest interview appologised for all those movies in which he played a role where the above had happened).
5.Educational lacunae, the formal means of social control, where the investment in it leads to actual sensitization of mind of a person. You will be again shocked to know that even today we only spend less than 3% of GDP on education, where a country like Lesoutho (might not even heard its name anywhere, is an African country) spends about 13%.
This list can go on and on where I can adress the political malafides in both commission and ommission of the Government's duties, which brings the corruptness inside our rich culture and gives motivation and incentives for such crimes.
It is high time now, India is witnessing a rape in every 13min, every 8 sec a female is getting molested.
Its enough, we can't take it more......!!!
Its not that we cannot do anything to stop this but this requires a mass movement. Not that which we did in 2013 by lighting candles near India Gate, but where :
1) we politically makes ourselves literate,
2) fight for every merely politically motivated policy and laws which we encounter,
3) elect government responsibly, and responsiblity doesn't ends after mere electing it but by regularly keep a check on it,
4)aspiring for gender neutral government (50%males-50% female, like that of Canada),
5)getting into system in both bureaucracy and politics. (not the only option but it makes task easy)
6)rather than asking for laws full of deterrence, asking for policies full for protection.
Few commendable steps recently by both Union and states govt. like Safe city programme in 8 cities (on pilot basis before can be introduces in whole country), Hawkeye mobile app, Shistachar progremme by Delhi police, Himmat app, Bharosa programme by Hyderabad police, Suraksha portal by Bengaluru police, All wommen patrol vans, NARI portal, etc.
The challenge is big but where our "why" becomes clear, the "how" automatically becomes easy.
With the utmost optimism, I personally think that we 'The Youths' can bring the desired change. All the best for us, we will make our country a desired place to live.
Thankyou for reading this lenghty write up its lot and lot of more stored inside ready to burst in coming time.
Ponder about it and get your views to me (will try my best to reply all)
THANK YOU
